Vaun Howard Boyd

 Vaun Howard Boyd, 92 of Rapid City, died September 16, 2023 at his residence.

The Drug Store Cowboy has joined Buck to ride in the great beyond! 
Vaun Boyd lived a long and memorable life. The baby of ten children born to William Albert & LuLu Grace (Smith) Boyd in Kimball, SD. He worked on the family farm in Kimball, SD from a very young age. Lived in Trent with his brother Lyle and Elsie in his teenage years, whom he thought of more as a father figure, while working and learning how to run a grocery store. Returning back to Kimball where he worked at the new sale barn at 16! He served his country in the Korean War from 1951-1955. He married Sandra Maurice Bush on March 18, 1955 in Sioux Falls. They moved to California to finish up his service duties. Returning to Sioux Falls, they made their home for the next 35 years, owning three grocery stores, three bars, apartment buildings, rental houses and a hotel. They had four children Cindy Boyd and Ed Williams, Willy (Bill) & Kristi Boyd, Dan and Luanne Boyd, Dawn and Randy Smart. Living on the farm north of Sioux Falls they all shared the love of horses & raising many farm animals - cows, pigs, sheep, horses, cats, dogs, a goat and a skunk! Always an adventure on the farm. When he retired from the grocery/bar business he pursed his love of being an auctioneer, drove semis, school bus & gravel trucks. They moved to the Black Hills when he was 60 years old to start an antique store! He met people from all over the world who took his picture and sent him newspaper articles of him from many foreign countries. He retired once again at 90 years old. He had a stroke a few months later. They bought a home on 3 acres in Rapid City where they lived for 2 years. They moved to Arizona the winter of 2022 and came home in the Spring of 2023. Blessed to share in all the adventures was his loving wife Sandy of 68 years, his four children, nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren-Stacy Baack, Tara and Doug Hall-Liston and Amber, Christopher and Jamie Baack-Anna and CJ, Lindsey & Dennis Williams-Gianna and Grayson, Danny Boyd, Travis Boyd-Aubrey, Kaitlin and Jeff Sutton-Ozzy, Kassie and Walter McDuff-Anthony and Alexis, Lee and Abigail Smart-Maximus & Oliver.  He made so many friends over his lifetime, many considered family.

Cremation has taken place.  A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring.
