Obituary
Rapid City - Leona Annette Carney, 56 of Rapid City, passed in her sleep on July 22, 2023 at 7:15 AM at Monument Health Hospice House in Rapid City.
She was born July 14th, 1967, and raised in Louisiana.
She moved to Rapid City a couple years before she had her only daughter Cody Carney in 1993. Leona was an amazing artist; she had a wonderful eye for photographs. Leona loved the Black Hills and escaping in the wilderness any chance that she was given. Give her a camera and she would be gone for hours taking pictures of anything and everything.
Leona was unique and one of a kind, we were all so lucky to have had her in our lives. She was an amazing sister, daughter, mother and friend to us all.
On April 9, 2023 she found out she had stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Leona being the strong fighter she was, fought the entire time. She stayed strong and brave for everyone she cared for around her and tried to not show any fear.
Leona always provided support and love for her family and friends.
She will be truly missed by us all.
Survivors include her daughter, Cody Carney and grandchildren, Melodiee and Drevan Carney, Rapid City; father, Elgene Roy Carney and wife Barbara, Baton Rouge, LA; Siblings, Malissa (Danny) and family Purmela, TX, Anita Jones and family, Denham Springs, LA, Joly Carney, Baton Rouge.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Myrna Jean Fortner Carney.
